Frequently Asked Questions
What is the process of custom-built cabinets?
Here at WoodWorkz Labz we strive for organizations, so we follow a series of steps for every project.
Visit the site and speak with the clients about details, ideas, time frames, and obstacles. This can often result in in-person 3D drawing if the site is ready for measurement.
Create a rough draft of sophisticated detailed drawings with floor plans, bird eye views, and 3D views. If created on site this draft will be reviewed for accuracy.
Clients can then visually see their future cabinets and make adjustments to their preference before the build begins, in turn it prevents unnecessary cost and delays. This is the time to do research and request change orders.
Upon approval, building begins in house while keeping our clients updated on the build.
Delivery day, this day/days consists of installation.
What kind of materials do you use?
We use several different materials depending on the project. Generally, for paint grade cabinets we build our cabinets with Birch and Maple plywood for the cases. Face frames are constructed out of Beech Hardwood.
Stain Grade cabinets vary on client preference, some of our most popular are Rift White Oak, Walnut, and Knotty Alder.
How much does it cost to build custom cabinets?
For custom cabinets there is no set number as every project contains different variables. Here a just a few
Door styles (Ex. Shaker, Mini-Shaker, Raised Panel)
Overlay or Inset
Door Reveal, the space between two doors (Ex. 1”, 1/4”, 1/8”)
Stain Grade or Paint Grade
Number of drawers and doors
Special accommodations such as spice racks, trash and paper towel drawers, drying racks for example.
What is the turnaround time for a project?
This can vary based on the number of cabinets, details, and obstacles. Our team will provide the client with the estimated time of completion without huge delays or rushed craftsmanship. We strive to communicate in the most efficient way possible to prevent unnecessary delays.
What is the difference between pre-assembled and custom cabinets?
In quick and simple terms, they are tailored to our clients desire. They are built to strict measurements whether it is between a wall or if a certain size is desired. They can be customized such as by changing the face layouts to all drawers, all doors, or a mix of both worlds. The material used is high grade cabinet plywood/hardwood. The most important point is that they are built to last, cabinets can be a huge investment and rest assured as ours a built to last.
So what is different?
Prefabricated cabinets are constructed to standard sizes which can prove difficult to maximize efficient in a space. They tend to have to be placed together to fit a wall causing double face frames and wasted space. These are often made out of lower quality wood and can lack quality control in due time. They have less customization options than that of custom cabinets. The upside to prefabricated cabinets is that they are cheaper, however as they saying goes cheaper is not always better.
